Laser Engraving
A laser beam removes or changes a thin layer of the material, leaving a sharp, permanent mark. Nothing is added, so nothing can rub off.
Custom laser engraving marks your logo directly into the product. A focused beam vaporises or discolours the top layer of the material, so the design becomes part of the item. There is no ink to fade or wear away, which is why engraved gift ideas tend to be the ones people keep: a metal pen, a bottle, a wooden board or a leather keyring that still looks right years later.
Materials and products for laser engraving
The laser reacts differently with each material, which also shapes the look of the logo:
- Coated or anodised metal reveals the bare metal underneath, giving a crisp silver or bright mark. Think metal pens, metal bottles, metal keyrings and pocket knives.
- Wood and bamboo darken where the beam touches, producing a warm, natural contrast, as on chopping boards.
- Leather and leatherette take a tone-on-tone mark that looks understated and premium, for example on leather keyrings or notebook covers.
- Glass and some acrylics get a frosted effect, used on trophies and plaques.
Why choose laser engraving for a logo
Laser engraving a logo gives fine detail, clean edges and excellent durability. It works well for executive gifts and long-lasting items, and because no screens or plates are involved, it is also practical for personalisation such as individual names. The colour of the engraving comes from the material itself; you cannot choose a Pantone shade, and on uncoated steel the contrast is subtle. Large solid areas take longer to engrave than outlines, which can affect laser engraving cost on bigger designs.
If you need your brand colours on a metal item, pad printing or UV printing may be the better route. For leather with a pressed, tactile look, see embossing and debossing.
Artwork for engraving
Engraving is a single-tone process, so send a one-colour vector version of your logo (AI, PDF, SVG or EPS) with text in outlines. Hairlines and very small lettering may lose definition on textured materials; we will point this out on the proof. Every order includes a free digital mock-up so you can see placement and size, and engraving starts after your approval. Check our artwork requirements or ask for a quote for your item and quantity.
